I finally found a planner with all the features I needed. The paper texture is very nice, but I've never used anything this thin. I can't wait to start using it.
As advertised
I purchased my first Hobonichi planner last year, it was the A5 Cousin - Spring Edition. The experience was truly enjoyable; for fountain pens, tombow and mildliner brush pens, gel pens, the occasional glue tape and plenty of stickers - it handled it well, I couldn't sing enough praise. But this year, I purchased the standard Jan to Dec 2025 A5 Cousin and there is a clear difference in the quality of the pages. The fountain pens, tombow brush pens, including the fudenosuke, they sometimes bleed through with even the lightest of application, and the ghosting is disappointing while it feels like the pages crumple easier with frequent handling, which defeats the idea of a daily planner.
All these issues happened very minimally or not at all in my 2024 Hobo Spring edition. It is also not a secret, there are plenty of other planners who haved highlighted this issue, which the downgraded quality is frustrating when you're paying close to $100 for a notebook. As much as I enjoy the layout of the Hobonichi, these new issues make me consider other planners for the next year, though I do hate to miss out on the features that the Hobonichi offers.
