The Mame Tamago, or small egg chochin, is part of Shiraki Kougei's cocolan series of miniature paper lanterns made in Yame, Fukuoka. Its gently rounded, egg-like silhouette is formed from hand-made washi paper wrapped over a bamboo-spiral frame, a lantern-making method passed down through generations of Yame craftsmen.
Set on a small beech-wood base, the built-in LED lights the paper shade from within for a warm, low-level glow. As with the rest of the cocolan range, it runs on batteries rather than a mains cord, making it easy to move between rooms.
Features
- Egg-shaped washi paper shade gives a distinctive silhouette when lit
- Bamboo-spiral frame construction reflects traditional Yame chochin techniques
- Battery powered LED light (not mains electricity) for flexible, cord-free placement
- Compact size suits a bedside table, entryway, or small shelf
