The ostrich design is one of two mountain-and-wildlife silhouettes in Shiraki Kougei's cocolan chochin range, hand-made in Yame, Fukuoka using a lantern-making tradition that dates back generations. Hand-made washi paper is stretched over a bamboo-spiral frame, then cut with the ostrich motif that appears when the lantern is lit.
A built-in LED sits on a solid hard maple base, giving the lantern a stable footprint and a soft, even glow through the paper shade. Like the rest of the cocolan series, it is battery powered rather than mains wired, so it can sit on any surface without a cord.

- Ostrich silhouette cut into the washi paper shade forms a striking pattern when lit
- Hand-made washi paper and bamboo-spiral frame reflect traditional Yame chochin techniques
