This A6 Original planner cover features artwork from Tomie, the debut and most iconic work by horror manga artist Junji Ito.
Using original illustrations first published in 1987, the design reflects nearly four decades of Junji Ito’s unsettling, unmistakable world.
The Tomie – Knowing Smile cover is crafted from iridescent faux leather and printed with an image of Tomie wearing a cold, condescending smile. The shimmering, rainbow-like surface captures her beauty, arrogance, and supernatural presence, shifting subtly as the light changes.
The two-tone exterior transitions from deep pink on the front to mint green on the back. The illustration, taken from the Tomie: Adopted Daughter chapter, appears to change colour depending on the viewing angle, enhancing Tomie’s elusive and eerie allure. Her eyes and lips are printed boldly for added intensity.
The back cover features another illustration of Tomie, complete with her long black hair, tear-shaped beauty mark, and a “TOMIE” signature. An English quote, adapted exclusively for the Hobonichi Techo, describes her irresistible charm and lingering presence.
The interior is finished in black. Hidden within the pocket is a disturbing illustration depicting one of Tomie’s most grotesque transformations, revealed only when the techo is removed. Another image shows Tomie as a human-faced tumour, her domineering personality unchanged even in grotesque form.
