To sharpen a knife in earnest, start with a rough whetstone, then gradually finish with a finer whetstone in the order of "rough whetstone" → "medium finish whetstone" → "finishing whetstone". This whetstone has two sides: a rough whetstone used for initial sharpening and a medium finish whetstone that can be used for finishing. The back of the saucer has a synthetic rubber rib on it to prevent slipping and work stably. There is a groove on the whetstone to receive the water (fat juice) and it does not stain the kitchen.
